UNIFRAX DURABOARD LD FIBER BOARD FIBER BOARDS use non-asbestos ceramic fibers, woven loosely together to form boards that withstand the high temperatures of fusing and the corrosive effects of molten glass. Fiber board is often used as kiln shelves as the surface is firm and smooth. When taken to temperatures of 1200°F or less, no shelf primer is required. If you will be using your Duraboard at higher temperatures, treat with Hotline Fiber Hardener and coat with Primo Primer. CLICK HERE for complete instructions on using Fiber Board and Hardener Many fusers use the 1/4" Duraboard as a lining to protect the expensive firebrick on their kiln floor. Also can be used as a heat proof pad to put on your workbench to set your table top kiln or hot kiln shelves on. When fired for the first time, take to 800°F and hold for 20 minutes. Duraboard will turn brown, as the sugar based binder burns off (provide ventilation) and the fully fired board will be a clean white. Ceramic fiber board can be cut to size or carved using a utility knife. For best results, do your cutting before the first firing. Available in three thicknesses: 1/4", 1/2" and 1"
FIBERFRAX FIBER PAPER can be used in place of shelf primer. Does not stick to your project, and gives a slightly textured surface to the back of your work. 1/8" paper is good for many firings, the 1/32" paper for a few. Made by Unifrax in the USA |
