HINTS FOR USING HIDDEN REINFORCEMENT
Re-Strip is by far the most popular
as the thin copper strip is easy to insert between foiled glass pieces
or along the heart of lead came. the 10 mil thickness makes it easy to
conform to the curves in your piece. Re-Strip will bend easily from left
to right, but it won't bend out of the plane of your panel making it so
much stronger than it looks. Most reasonably priced, so feel free to use
it generously.
Where added strength is needed, Strong
Line is your best choice. It is made with steel, so you can't beat
the strength unless you use steel rebar. The copper coating makes it
easy to solder. Not as flexible as Re-Strip.
Braided Wire is the handiest of the
three to use in lampshade construction. It will flex in all directions
(until you coat it with solder). It follows the curve of a lamp profile
as well as following the curve of the lamp border.
Braided Wires is also outstanding for reinforcing borders on free-form
pieces. If you stop by our Buffalo, NY showroom, ask to see how Matt
used it in his Dolphin panel.
